This coming Sunday, November 4th, the Los Angeles Rams will be traveling to New Orleans to face off against the Saints at the Mercedes-Benz Super Dome.
Both teams are riding hot streaks of 8 wins in a row for the Rams and 6 wins in a row for the Saints. The Rams are 8-0 at their halfway point of the season and look to stay undefeated after this Sunday. But the Saints are 6-1 and have not lost a game since Week 1.
Although the Rams are still undefeated the Saints are favored to win by 1.5 points.
Both high-powered offenses of the Rams and Saints have been almost unstoppable all year. Both teams are averaging just around 33 points per game. These offenses are led by their dominant running backs and dynamic quarterbacks.
Rams quarterback Jared Goff has thrown for 2,425 yards on the year with 17 touchdowns. Along with the 17 touchdowns, Goff has only thrown 5 interceptions.
On the other side Saints quarterback Drew Brees is on pace for another phenomenal season. Brees has 1,990 passing yards and his touchdown to interception ratio is 14:1. Brees just recently passed Peyton Manning as the leader for career passing yards in NFL history. Along with that Brees was the newest member to join the 500 Touchdown club.
Both teams have offenses that feature their running backs a majority of the time. For the Rams, Todd Gurley has a total of 1,151 yards and 14 touchdowns on the year. For the Saints, their two-headed monster of Alvin Kamara and Mark Ingram have combined for 11 total touchdowns and 1,008 yards on the season.
Gurley who finished second in MVP voting last year is in the mix again this year to win the award. This year Gurley has more total touchdowns than 6 teams in the NFL have.
The Saints defense have a lot on their plate this week with the Rams coming into town. The Saints defense has averaged 26.1 points allowed per game.
Rams coach Sean McVay will look to use his dominant offense to exploit the Saints defense. But if the Rams are going to win the game this week McVay will need to trust his defense to keep the scoring at a minimum this week.
The Rams defense is only averaging 19.4 points allowed per game. Only 5 teams have averaged fewer points per game then the Rams have. But recently the Rams defense was picked apart by Aaron Rodgers and the Packers offense.
The Rams have one of the best defensive lines in the NFL but their secondary is very weak right now. With offseason acquisition, Aqib Talib still injured the Rams secondary has been taken advantage of all season. Marcus Peters who is also in his first year on the Rams has been playing with a slight calf strain and he has not been playing at a high level. He has been picked on by multiple opposing teams and the Rams need him to step up this week versus the Saints.
Although the Rams have won every game this season they have been tested multiple times of late. If they are going to win the game this week they will need their offense to stay hot and keep scoring consistently. Along with the offense the Rams defense will need to reduce big plays and put pressure on Drew Brees all game.
For the Saints to win the game this week they will need to find ways to exploit the Rams secondary and have a dominant running game.
This game will go a long way in determining who will be the number 1 overall seed in the NFC and it will be a big game for both teams to prove that they can compete in big games.
As a Rams fan, I will always root for the Rams but I think that the Rams will pull off a close victory in New Orleans but the game will be high scoring and come down to the end. I think the game will be 38-32 with a late touchdown to push the Rams towards another victory.
