On Tuesday October 23rd the 2018 World Series will begin with the Los Angeles Dodgers playing against the Boston Red Sox. The series will begin at Fenway park and the starting matchup is going to be Chris Sale vs. an undecided pitcher for the Dodgers.
I think the Red Sox are going to win the series in an easy 5 games.
Here's why, the Red Sox had the most dominant offense all year and that offense has stayed hot through the playoffs. The offensive outburst by the Red Sox in the ALCS was led Jackie Bradley Jr. who hit 2 home runs and had 9 RBIs. Along with that Rafael Devers only had 13 at bats in the series but had 6 rbis and 5 hits. Along with the dominant offense the Red Sox have a dominant pitching staff and tremendous bullpen.
The Red Sox offense was led by the 2 MVP candidates all year, Mookie Betts and J.D. Martinez and will look for them to keep leading this powerhouse offense into the World Series.
Not only do the Red Sox have a powerful offense but their pitching staff is phenomenal. Led by Chris Sale who did not pitch his best in the ALCS but he will be a big part in the Red Sox success in this year's World Series.
The dark horse in the Red Sox pitching rotation, Nathan Eovaldi has been dominant all postseason. Eovaldi is 2-0 this postseason and has been nearly un-hittable. This postseason he filled the role that Charlie Morton filled for the Astros last postseason, and he was one of the main reasons the Astros won a ring.
David Price is known for his postseason struggles but he finally etched his name in the win column for the first time in a playoff game in game 5 of the ALCS. Price claimed that he found something new in his windup while warming up during game 4. This change brought on a dominant game 5 win with 6 solid innings of 9 strike out and 3 hit baseball.
On the other side the Dodgers went 7 games against the Milwaukee Brewers and will go into the World Series tired and worn out. The Dodgers are still unsure who will pitch game one because they used all of their pitchers in the NLCS.
With 23 total runs scored in 7 games the Dodgers need their offense to be alive and ready to compete with the best offense in baseball in the Boston Red Sox.
The Dodgers have a deep bullpen with one of the most dominant closers to ever play the game. In front of the bullpen the Dodgers starting staff is decent but I do not believe they will be able to keep up with the starters from the Red Sox.
Clayton Kershaw needs to be the regular season Kershaw and not the playoff Kershaw that everyone knows. If Kershaw plays like the Cy Young type of pitcher he can be the Dodgers have a chance to pull off a World Series win.
The Dodgers offense had some bright spots in the NLCS with Cody Bellinger all series and Yasiel Puig and Justin Turner hitting decisive home runs in different games. But the pitching that the Brewers had was tired and worn out and this Red Sox starting rotation and bullpen are well rested and ready to attack these Dodger hitters.
To me this matchup is very lopsided and it will be very disappointing if the Red Sox cannot pull of a win in this series. I think the Sox will win in an easy 5 with two wins at their home stadium and then will slip up once the series shifts out to California but will be back to their winning ways to finish off the Dodgers in 5 games.
Dark Horses: Nathan Eovaldi, Rafael Devers, and Ian Kinsler
World Series MVP: J.D. Martinez
