What Is Going On With The Rams?

It has been a while since I wrote about my Rams but the time has finally come. This year has been a mess and I am truly at a loss for words on what is going on. They sit at 6-5 entering week 13 and they are coming off as brutal of a loss as possible when they lost to the Ravens 45-6.

A couple weeks ago, maybe even just a couple days ago I would have told you the Rams only problem was their QB Jared Goff who has been awful but their defense was just exposed in ways they have never been before. Entering Monday Night they had statistically been the best defense in November but they gave up double what they had given up all month on Monday Night.

I get it Lamar Jackson is the MVP and not many teams have had an answer to stopping him, but 45 points in unacceptable. Jackson threw 5 touchdowns and he is supposed to just be a running QB and I get it he has been amazing throwing this year but the have a top 5 corner in Jalen Ramsey and what was supposed to be one of the best defenses in the NFL.

The defense has not been the only thing that has not met up to expectations this year. As a group Sean McVay's high powered offense has been shut down and have not found any sort of stride all year. They are averaging 22.6 points a game with a ton of passing yards but zero rushing yards. The Rams offense thrives off of Todd Gurley and that rushing game but they only like to pass the ball.

Todd Gurley entered the season with health issues and has proved everything is fine and when he is used he has been great but when he is neglected the offense looks like a high school football team playing in the NFL.

But these struggles are not the main reason to the Rams decline this year. The main reason is Jared Goff who has been flat out awful. Goff is 30th in QB rating this year, mind you there are 32 teams in the NFL and he is 3rd to last. The guy who threw 32 touchdowns last year only has 11 but along with that he has 12 interceptions which is the same he had all of last year. Every game I watch all I do is yell at him in the TV. Goff continues to throw the ball into double or triple coverage when he has guys single covered or open.

There are many things wrong with the Rams right now but the season is not over and there can still be hope. That hope lives and dies with Jared Goff though, if he can figure it out the Rams can be lethal again just like last year but if he continues to be awful the Rams will be looking a losing record right in the eye.

The upcoming schedule has two dates with the Arizona Cardinals which should be games that are won, and then battles with teams who are all in the playoff picture in the Seahawks, Cowboys, and the 49ers. Two of those three games are on the road which means the Rams have quite the test ahead of them.

On top of the tough schedule where they will have to either win out or at go 4-1 they have to pray that the Minnesota Vikings or the Green Bay Packers slow down and lose multiple games. This coming Monday Night the Vikings face off against the Seahawks and then the only team they play that is above .500 right now will be the Packers. Speaking of the Packers they have one of the easiest schedules remaining with three of the five games against teams with 3 or less wins.

The road ahead may be long and it may be tough to get through for the Rams but they can do it and I still have hope. That hope may be as slim as ever but if Jared Goff can be a capable QB then the Rams can scratch and claw into the playoffs and then from there is another conversation.

Yes I am disappointed and yes I am in disbelief but I love my Rams and I know they can do this but they just have to figure it the F out.
