USWNT Wage Gap

By Colin Dixon May 30th, 2019

With the Women's World Cup coming up soon the hype surrounding the USA Women's National team is growing. But what is not being talked about is the wage gap between the men and women's teams in America. The men's team makes remarkably more than the women's team does and it needs to be fixed.

After winning the World Cup in 2015 the women from the US are looking to repeat in 2019 with the star-studded roster that includes Alex Morgan, Carli Lloyd, and Megan Rapinoe to name a few. In contrast, the men did not even qualify for the 2018 World Cup after being defeated in qualifiers.

Statistically, the women make a quarter of what the men make. This wage gap is ridiculous to start with but the women's team has actually proven something on the world stage compared to the men who are just a laughing stock within the sport.

As the women look to bring another World Cup trophy back home, it is time that United States Soccer starts to pay their athletes equally. It is 2019 and women athletes need to be treated fairly especially if they are winning the World Cup.
